The proportion that detours because of unsafe places or that feels unsafe on the street at night is comparable to 2017. ![]() A smaller group also feels unsafe at home in the evenings, and the group that is afraid of becoming a victim of crime has shrunk. Compared to 2017, fewer Dutch people in 2019 indicate that they do not open the door in the evening because they do not think it is safe. ![]() In 2019, public sense of insecurity was around 14 percent lower than in 2008. 14 percent of Dutch people sometimes felt unsafe in their own neighborhood in 2019, this is lower than in 2017 (16 percent) and 2012 (18 percent). Public sense of insecurity has decreased by 34 percent compared to 2005.
